MILAN – A month after inking a new footwear deal, Dean and Dan Caten are bullish about their prospects in the luxury women’s shoe business.
The designers told Footwear News they consider the collection – which will be produced by Italian footwear giant Pollini but directly controlled by Dsquared – their first “solo” investment. The designers’ women’s footwear line was previously licensed to Vicini, christian louboutin ’s company.
“There’s a huge potential for this line. We want to be more competitive price-wise – that’s why we have to directly manage this business,” said Dean Caten.
The collection, set to hit retail for fall, will feature a range of looks, including furry boots, ice-cream-cone-heeled pumps and sandals with embellishments. The Canadian-born designers also tapped into their heritage with feminine working boots, suede tasseled pumps, fox-fur details and a woodsy color palette ranging from a deep musty green to a rich eggplant purple.
The footwear line will be targeted to independent stores where Dsquared ready-to-wear is sold, as well upscale department stores and select specialty stores. In the U.S., Dsquared is available at Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman, christian louboutin shoes and in Canada at Holt Renfrew.
Separately, the brothers are prepping to bow their first retail boutique. Set to open in September, the store will be located a few steps away from the tony shopping street Via Montenapoleone.
It will be modeled after the brand’s Milan showroom, with raw wood, steel and chrome fixtures. The designers said they are considering opening a second store in London, where they spend part of the year. This summer louboutin shoes, a showroom dedicated to the footwear line will open in New York. Also on the agenda for 2007 is a new fragrance.
